The History Behind Kings Cars. Kings was formed over 40 years ago by Alan
and Dorothy King, what was Alan's hobby, modifying cylinder heads, hand making
gaskets, race preparing Austin A35's and A40's and even taking part in racing
events himself, where soon to become a major part of Alan and Dorothy Kings
future.
How A Hobby Became Family Life!
Alan started a small service repair centre from an old lockup garage in Haydock
Merseyside after leaving a career as a mining surveyor. Progressing from repairing
motor vehicles, Alan also started to sell motor vehicles and towards the end
of the fifty's early sixties he was awarded the Austin and Morris franchise
for the area.
After a 12 year span with Austin, Morris, Wolsey and MG, Alan decided he wanted
a change and had the opportunity to become involved with the Saab and Toyota
franchises which also developed into a well established and meaningful relationship.
In 1976 the Audi - Volkswagen franchise became available which Alan swiftly
secured, now he had the franchise he had to build a new purpose built showroom
and workshop facility. Throughout the mid 70's and early 80's Alan introduced
his two sons into the family business, first to come on board was Mike who's
involvement played a major part in vehicle sales, shortly followed by Philip
who also proved to be very successful on the sales floor. Kings soon became
one of the areas most respected business' and held the Audi - Volkswagen franchise
until they came to the conclusion that franchise bureaucracy and red tape where
now starting to take the fun out of selling new cars. A decision was reached
by the family, and in 1985 the business was sold, and to this day the original
showroom and workshops still stand, selling and repairing new and used Volkswagens.
Although Kings are no longer involved in the new car franchise world, they
have developed into a niche used car dealer, specialising in quality pre-owned
motor vehicles including: Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen. At the
forefront of Kings today, you will find Mike and Philip King, Mike also heads
Grange Court Leasing, the corporate arm of Kings, specifically placed in the
market to service our corporate clients. Philip King, who is responsible for
the entire after sales department and oh yes, Alan King who is responsible
for our I.T and accounts department. I have worked with the King family now
for over 8 years, and I am proud to be involved with them as are all the staff
at kings. I once asked Mike King what was our unique selling Point, what made
Kings that 1% better than our competitors, he said,
